Fijándonos solo en el crimen violento vemos que estados que, según la Brady Campaign, hacen poco para controlar las armas de fuego disfrutan también de las tasas de crimen violento más bajas. En el otro extremo, sin embargo, encontramos estados como Maryland, California, Illinois, Massachusetts y New York, que tienen estricto control de armas. No se aprecia, sin embargo, una correlación clara entre control de armas y crimen violento.

Una vez más no se ve una correlación entre el nivel de control de armas de fuego y la tasa de asesinatos.

En contra de lo que propone Martínez Quirante, la falta de control de armas o un control muy laxo no necesariamente lleva a un aumento de la criminalidad. Las comparaciones basadas simplemente en la disponibilidad de armas de fuego, ignorando cualquier otra variable relevante, no conduce a resultados válidos.
